According to the United Nations (UN), more than 65 MILLION people have been forcibly displaced from their homes. Despite these staggering figures, Sacramento has led the nation in welcoming refugees. As the largest resettlement location in the U.S., our city welcomed over 5,000 refugees in 2018 alone. The majority of these newcomers are special immigrant visa holders who served alongside U.S. forces in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Each year, the UN recognizes June 20th as World Refugee Day to honor the courage and resilience of those forced to flee threats of persecution, conflict, and violence. We want to celebrate World Refugee Day here as well, not just on June 20th, but throughout the month of June and July.

Join us for one or all of the events listed below! We’re kicking things off June 8th with an adult soccer tournament and family fun day at Papa Murphy’s Park. We invite all of Sacramento to come out and celebrate alongside our city’s refugee community.
